MISCELLANEA

On polynomial expansions for likelihoods of spatial data with finite range correlation function

A. J. WATKINS

Department of Management Science & Statistics, University College of Swansea Swansea SA2 8PP, U.K.

We seek to establish a framework for providing computationally attractive forms for quantities in the likelihood of the spatial linear model. This framework permits the study of correlation schemes with finite range parameter, and can be extended to include a nugget effect parameter. We study, and obtain results for, one simple example, and indicate how generalizations to this work will operate.

Key Words: Determinant • Lattice sampling scheme • Power correlation function • Quadratic form • Reissian hybrid • Spatial linear model
