‘Estimating the common mean direction of several circular of spherical distributions with differing dispersions’

NICHOLAS I. FISHER and TOBY LEWIS

We are very grateful to Mrs G. Chapman and Dr A. Underwood for drawing our attention to errors in the calculation of weighted estimates of mean directions in Example 2. The correct results are as follows, (i) For weights

approximate 95% confidence interval (212.2°, 244.7°). (ii) For weights

(219.7°, 250.1°). (iii) For weights

approximate 95% confidence interval (226.1°, 252.1°).
