What's this?

On the role of data of possibly lowered sensitivity

D. R. COX

Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London

Data are available to examine some phenomenon and there is the possibility of further data in which, however, the effect under study may have reduced magnitude. The testing of a null hypothesis of zero effect is considered as a testing problem with ordered alternatives and, in particular, conclusions are drawn about possible loss of power arising from the inclusion of insensitive data.

Key Words: Design of experiments • Likelihood ratio • Ordered alternative • Sample size • Significance test
