On the probability of correctly selecting the best of several normal populations

In the (
*, P*) approach to the selection of the best of several normal populations there has been a fundamentally important open question of whether the probability of correct selection increases with each of the sample sizes. The present paper shows that such monotonicity in fact does not hold in general.
