A note on Lancaster's definition of higher-order interactions

An expression is given for the joint distribution function of a set of n random variables that uses only the (1,2,..., s)-dimensional marginal distributions (s = 2,... , n – 1), but which assumes that the sth and higher-order interactions of Lancaster vanish. For s = 2 an application to qualitative data is outlined.
