A Cramér-von Mises type statistic for testing symmetry

A Cramér-von Mises type statistic is proposed for testing the symmetry of a continuous distribution function. Its small sample and asymptotic null distributions are derived. It is shown to be consistent against all nonsymmetric alternatives.
