Single-sample tests for the von Mises distribution
University of Newcastle upon Tyne
New tests for data from a von Mises distribution are provided for two hypotheses. One hypothesis specifies the polar direction of the distribution while the other specifies both the polar direction and the degree of dispersion of the distribution. All the tests are based on the likelihood ratio and are intended to augment and partially supplant tests devised previously by Stephens and others. It is demonstrated that the tests are generally both more accurate and more powerful than the existing tests.
