The performance of established and modified compound decision rules

P. R. RAYMENT

University of Melbourne

The performance of compound rules when applied in various particular decision problems is discussed, and further information is presented.

As an alternative to using one of the established compound rules, it is proposed that, for a small number of components, the statistician might choose between a compound rule and the minimax rule on the basis of the observations. Finally, the effect on the compound risk of discarding early observations is investigated.

Key Words: Compound decision theory • Two action decision problems • Deciding between two simple hypotheses • Comparison between compound decisions and minimax
