Corrections

The following related work was omitted from the list of references: C. Singh (1967). ‘On the extreme values and range of samples from non-normal polulations’, Biometrika, 54, 541–50. Also in equations (2.12), (2.13) and (2.18) the coefficient of {lambda}4t/24 should read . Appropriate changes in Table I are to be made. Also in §2.4 equations (2.21), (2.23), ß1,med, ß2,med should have {lambda}4 replaced by 3{lambda}4.
