A new parameter is suggested to specify the logarithmic series distribution and this parameter is shown to have a number of advantages. A table is constructed to provide the maximum-likelihood estimate of this parameter for different values of the mean. The same table can also be used in estimating the negative binomial distribution by mean and zeros.
