On the computation and use of a table of percentage points of Bartlett's M
Aarhus University Denmark
The test criterion M, Bartlett's M, is often used as a tost of variance heterogeneity, when variances are estimated for groups of observations. The percentage points of M may, as is well known, be approximated by a X2 distribution. A method aiming to improve the approximation is given in connexion with Table 32 in Biometrika Tables for Statisticians, vol.I.We present here a new table giving exact percentage points of M in the special case where the groups are of the same size. The new table is compared with Table 32. The new table contains, in contradistinction to Table 32, lower as well as upper percentage points. The application of the lower values is discussed.
