Experimental development of nutritive media for micro-organisms

Methods of random balance and steepest ascent were used for choosing the composition of a nutritive medium for green sulphur bacteria Chlorobium thiosulfatophilum. A new composition was found giving a yield about three times that of Larsen's medium.
