A note on the Arst two moments of the mean deviation of the symmetrical multinomial distribution

The mean deviation of the symmetrical multinomial distribution may be used to test the hypothesis of equal cell probabilities in a multinomial population. In this note the first two moments of the mean deviation are obtained and approximations to them presented and evaluated.
