Tests for the dispersion and for the modal vector of a distribution on a sphere

This paper provides exact tests in connexion with the distribution introduced by Fisher to describe observations on a sphere. The tests are for the dispersion parameter of the population, and for the modal direction when the dispersion is known. Approximate tests are also examined. The tests may be adapted to provide confidence intervals.
