MISCELLANEA

A non-parametric comparison of two samples one of which is censored

J.G. SAW

University of Florida

The Mann-Whitney (1947) [7-statistic is generalized to the case where one sample is censored above and below; the asymptotic relative efficiency of this generalized statistic versus the {U-statistic is discussed. A normal approximation is compared with exact values for the null significance level of a given experimental value of the generalized statistic; this approximation is excellent for all practical purposes. 1
