Girdle distributions on a sphere

The study of distributions of directions has so far been confined to directions which are concentrated about some axis. This paper is concerned with models for another type of distribution of directions, where the concentration is about a certain plane. Two models are suggested and the associated estimation and hypothesis-testing problems are investigated.
